Selwood House launch Dementia Cafe

Selwood House Care Home is launching a regular Dementia Café starting on Wednesday 5th June. The monthly community café has been named the ‘Forget me not Café’ and will run on the first Wednesday of each month from 10.00 am until 12.00 noon.

We are very excited about the launch of our Dementia Café, we believe it will be a great asset to the local community in and around Charlton Down.” said Customer Relations Manager, Kate Andrew. “The Forget-me-not café will be open to everyone and is aimed at those living with dementia and anyone caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other form of dementia. Our friendly team will be on-hand to provide refreshments including tea, coffee and a slice of cake freshly made by our Chef.”

The Forget-me-not Café will host something different each month, from educational speakers to promote awareness of dementia, as well as dementia friendly activities such as singing for the brain. Visitors to the home will have the opportunity to join residents for a friendly chat helping people to retain their community connections and build friendships. The café is being supported by representatives from Alzheimer's Society who will be on hand to provide signposting to local services.

Here at Selwood House Care Home, we aim to be a focal point for the local community in the Dorchester area.” explained Home Manager Becky Green. “We are delighted to be supported in this initiative by Mel Matthews and Jim Matthews from Alzheimer's Society who will be joining us at the Forget-me-not café to offer support and advice”.
