Country Court Care Dementia Champions learn from inspirational dementia educator
Country Court Care Dementia Champion April Lewis, together with Susannah Spencer, Head of Dementia Care attended an inspiring presentation by America’s leading dementia educator and trainer, Teepa Snow.
At the invitation of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Lincoln, Teepa spoke at Sleaford New Life Centre on 23 November 2016. Her visit aimed to provide training for professionals, students, volunteers and carers of people living with dementia.
“Teepa was amazing, her passion for supporting those living with Dementia is truly inspirational.” Said April Lewis, Dementia Champion at Country Court Care’s Summer Lane Care Home. “I came away with so many ideas and I’m excited to share them with my colleagues”.
Commenting on the presentation, Susannah Spencer said “A very engaging, interesting lady, with a huge drive to get care right for people with dementia. Her presentation reinforced the methods we use here at Country Court Care to teach our teams about how our interactions affect people with dementia”.
Teepa’s philosophy of Positive Approach® to care techniques and training models are used by families and professionals working or living with dementia throughout the world. It’s based on Teepa’s 30 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, current research and first-hand care giving interactions. Her teaching style has won her fervent admirers in the caregiver community in US, Canada, Australia and the UK.
