Ferrars Hall host 'I've Lost My Mum' book launch
Local author Cassandra Farren launched her new book 'I've Lost my Mum' at Ferrars Hall Care Home in Huntingdon on 23rd May. The launch was attended by Mayor and Mayoress of Huntingdon Cllr Steve McAdam and Mrs Audrey McAdam as well as over 40 local people and families of residents at Ferrars Hall Care Home.
Cassandra gave a talk about her book followed by a question and answer session. Cassandra's moving story charts the progress of her Mother's Alzheimer's Disease and impact on her and her family as they struggle to cope with the diagnosis.
Cassandra dedicated her book to Laura Mills, Customer Relations Manager for Country Court Care and thanked Laura for her friendship and support throughout her mother’s illness. Cassandra explained how Laura had gone above and beyond in her role as Customer Relations Manager at Ferrars Hall.
“When I first called the care home to find out about bringing Mum for a visit, Laura was so kind and patient. When we spoke on the phone the last thing she asked me was what Mum’s favorite biscuits were and when we came to visit, there on the table was a plate of custard creams! It made Mum’s day and the whole visit, which I’d been dreading, turned out to be a great success. I was so relieved”.
“I was overwhelmed when Cassie announced she was dedicating her book to me,” said Laura “it was very unexpected. I love what I do, it’s never been ‘just a job’ for me, I feel privileged to meet families coping with dementia and support them any way that I can”.
In the self-published book, author Cassandra wears her heart on her sleeve as she describes the roller coaster ride of emotions and strives to make a difference to those whose lives have been devastated by dementia.
'I've Lost My Mum' provides invaluable insights into a cruel disease through a heartfelt and compelling story giving hope that it’s possible to find peace when your loved one is lost to you.
