The Laurels raise £500 at charity BBQ
The Laurels Care Home enjoyed a fantastic BBQ at the weekend, despite the weather the event was well attended by local families and members of the local community. The Draycott Care Home raised £340 on the day, which was topped up by Country Court Care to £500 for the Hope for Tomorrow mobile chemotherapy unit.
“We were delighted that people came along and joined us for tasty food, raffle and drinks” said Home Manager Wendy Perkins “we hold a charity BBQ every year and it’s always very popular in the village, this year’s cause is very close to our hearts and we were really pleased to see so many people at our home”.
Hope for Tomorrow build, provide and maintain state of the art Mobile Chemotherapy Units to NHS Trusts to operate with their fully qualified staff. The units can visit up to 5 locations each week to give treatments, and these treatment locations are carefully chosen by the NHS Trusts based on where they can treat the most patients at any given point.
Each bespoke state of the art Unit costs £260,000 to build and launch, which includes the provision of at least one Nurses Support Vehicle to each NHS Trust Partner, which allows the nursing teams to travel to and from the daily location of the Unit, along with any additional supplies or equipment that’s required. Fundraising is crucial to keep these units operating and The Laurels Care Home is looking forward to making a contribution to this fantastic cause.
“Our residents love to have visitors at their home and it’s a great opportunity for local people to come along and see what life is like for our residents at The Laurels” added Wendy.
The Laurels Care Home is situated in the village of Draycott, 2 miles from Cheddar, at the foot of the Mendips Hills in the beautiful North East region of Somerset. The Laurels provides high quality residential care for up to 21 residents and has recently become part of the Country Court Care group. The Country Court Care Group owns 25 care homes which provide care for up to 1085 elderly people across the UK. It is a family owned and run business providing elderly care services within residential and nursing homes, together with associated day services.
