As you settle into life in a care home, meeting and getting to know other residents is a great way to start feeling at home. Finding shared interests or local connections facilitates friendship building and swapping stories and reminiscing helps people to feel at ease in their new home.
Jean is 88 and has lived at Tallington Lodge since November 2019. We sat down with Jean over a cup of tea and asked her what she is most proud of in her life;
"I am very proud of my son and my husband of course, we were married for thirty years and he was a policeman".
Jean's favourite place to visit is Cyprus where she visited her brother when he was stationed there with the RAF. Jean loves to sew and made many of her own clothes and dresses, for many years she worked as a shop assistant in a local paint shop.
Funny, unique and happy
"There is always someone to talk to and you can't get lonely, I enjoy sitting in the garden when the sun is shining. The staff here are all really lovely and so kind."
"I really enjoy the evening meals, my favourites are the toasties and cheese and biscuits. I love the afternoon teas too, they're a real treat!"
