Residents, families, and members of the local community gathered at Moat House Care Home in Great Easton, Essex, for a “Back in My Day” community coffee morning. The event celebrated local history enjoyed over coffee, tea, and freshly baked cakes.
“In preparation for the event, our residents baked delicious pastries, including homemade chocolate twists and cheese & chutney twists. These were shared and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at the coffee morning.”
Guests from Moat Park joined the event, along with residents’ family members and volunteers from the Dementia Café in Great Dunmow.
Adding an extra touch to the event were Rob and Carol from Roberts Homewares, who kindly brought along a collection of old-fashioned homewares, including some vintage tea sets that residents enjoyed using for their tea and cake during the event. They also displayed 1950s crockery and cutlery, a traditional typewriter, an old-fashioned Hoover, and some vintage jewellery.
‘Rob and Carol also generously donated some photo albums for our residents to keep and enjoy. We thought this was such a kind gesture, which our residents loved.’ Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Kerry Pennock.
The morning also welcomed Heidi, a special guest who came dressed beautifully in a poppy-print dress with a handmade headpiece. She spent time chatting with residents and engaging in the nostalgia of the day.
We were also thrilled to welcome Maggie and Gary from the Tilty History Group, who brought along a fascinating collection of photographs showing the local area through the years, including images of Moat House Care Home back in the day. One visitor, who had been the administrator for the original care home, shared memories from the 1970s, when the manor was purchased by a local surgeon and cared for just three residents on site.
“Our residents loved reminiscing, asking further questions, and seeing all the items that were brought along especially for our event. It was such a lovely way to celebrate the past together.”
