Residents at Carpenders Park Care Home in Watford came together to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a relaxed day of meaningful activities, live music, and time for reflection.
The morning started with a light-hearted VE Day quiz, sparking conversations about life during wartime Britain and the events that shaped the world as we know it. In the afternoon, musical duo The Pacemakers visited the home, performing a nostalgic set filled with well-loved songs from the era.
“The Pacemakers were recommended by the husband of one of our residents and they were absolutely brilliant,” said Senior Customer Relations Manager, Laura Mills. “Their music created such a lovely atmosphere – there were smiles all around.”
The home was decorated in red, white and blue, and residents enjoyed homemade cakes from the kitchen team as they listened to the music and shared stories.
“It meant a lot to our residents to spend the day together, remembering those who lived through the war and the significance of VE Day,” said Interim Home Manager, Julie Wicks. “It was a simple but special way to mark such an important moment in history. We’re already looking forward to welcoming The Pacemakers back.”
There was even more to celebrate recently, as Carpenders Park Care Home was awarded a glowing review score of 10 on carehome.co.uk, a proud reflection of the team’s ongoing commitment.
“We’re really proud of this,” added Julie. “It’s a real testament to the dedication of our team and the personalised care and support we provide every day.”
