Fernleigh Court Care & Nursing Home in Kempston recently hosted a well-attended Summer Fair that brought together residents, families, staff, and members of the local community for an afternoon of entertainment, food, and fundraising. Held in the home’s garden, the event featured live music, traditional games, local craft stalls, and a wide range of refreshments.
A variety of local stallholders showcased their handmade products, including Jackie Darnell, who offered knitwear and scarves; M.R.S. Designs, selling handmade skincare items and fresh fruit; along with beautifully made decoupaged ornaments and crocheted goods such as bags, coasters, and decorative items.
“Our entertainment was provided by guest singer Dean Gee, who performed a wide range of classic songs, took requests, and engaged with the audience throughout the afternoon,” said Home Manager Tendai Matore. “We also held a raffle and some classic games like ‘Guess the Name of the Teddy’ and ‘Guess the Footballer’, with small prizes for the winners.”
“Our Chef Manager Kerry Gent and the kitchen team prepared a barbecue for everyone to enjoy,” said Customer Relations Manager Chloe Kenna. “There was also a cocktail and mocktail bar run by our hostesses, and we were pleased to welcome Mr & Mrs Whippy, who served ice cream throughout the afternoon.”
“In total, the event raised a fantastic £178 through raffle ticket sales and games,” added Wellbeing Coordinator Lead Charlotte Paul. “These funds will go towards extra special activities for our residents.”
Feedback from residents and visitors was overwhelmingly positive. Resident Sue said, “The food is delicious!” while Nick commented, “The atmosphere is great.” Maria praised the team, saying, “You ladies have done such a great job,” and Ronal summed it up simply with, “It’s all just lovely.”
Guests shared similarly warm feedback, with comments including “The singer is amazing,” “Great turnout,” and “Amazing to see all of the residents enjoying themselves.”
“Everyone was in great spirits, wearing Hawaiian leis and taking part in the festivities,” said Wellbeing Coordinator Lead Charlotte Paul. “It was a great example of community spirit and a very enjoyable afternoon for everyone involved.”
“We’d like to thank everyone who attended, supported, and helped bring the event together,” added Home Manager Tendai Matore. “It’s always great to see so many people come together to support our residents, and we’re already looking forward to planning our next event.”
