Hermitage House Care Home in Thrapston was bursting with joy and wagging tails as they welcomed the local community to its Dog Show & Craft Fair, bringing together residents, families, staff, and local traders.
‘The day was a great success, we had over 300 attendees, more than 20 local craft and artisan stalls, a resident-judged dog show, and raised an incredible £740 for our residents’ comfort fund — helping to support extra special activities for our residents.’ Commented Wellbeing Lead Sarah Gibbs.
'Attendees browsed stalls with glasswork, wax melts, crochet items, original art, woodwork, personalised dog gifts, and enjoyed coffee and a licensed bar. A face painter and dog training demos were also popular with families and pet lovers alike.'
The day’s highlight was the Dog Show with 10 light-hearted categories judged by residents such as loveliest lady, cutest pup, waggiest tail and more. Owners paraded their dogs, and residents voted enthusiastically for their favourites. Winners received prizes and rosettes handmade by residents.
Resident Peta, 88, said, “This was one of my most memorable days. I’ve been smiling from ear to ear!” Roger, 91, added, “What a fantastic day.” And Mary, 84, shared, “This day brings back so many memories of my dogs. It’s hard to choose a favourite!”
“Brilliant day, well organised and ran very smoothly. It was so busy that we’ll need to make our dog show judging area bigger next year!”
‘A heartfelt thank you goes out to Sarah, our Wellbeing Lead, and her wonderful family, who volunteered their time to help set up, run stalls, and pack everything away. Their support, along with that of every visitor and stallholder, made the event one to remember. We’re already looking forward to next year!’ Commented Jess Grayson, Customer Relations Manager.
