Here at Link House Care and Nursing Home resident Betty recently found her sea legs on a sailing trip arranged by the care home team as part of the Country Court Make a Wish initiative. Betty requested to go sailing ahead of her 100th birthday in December Staff were keen for her to feel the wind in her hair again as they knew she’d been a keen sailor in the past.
The team at Link House worked closely with the Wimbledon Park Water sports and Outdoor Centre to ensure that Betty’s wish could become a reality. Betty was able to spend a wonderful day on the water surrounded by her friends and the caring staff who made her dream come true.
“We wanted to do something special and meaningful for Betty to mark such a special birthday.” Explained Davina Callender, Wellbeing Coordinator at Link House Care & Nursing Home. “Betty is a much-loved member of our Link House family, through learning about her life history we knew she would love spending time out on the water again. It’s been wonderful to see her enjoying her passion for sailing.”
Back on dry land, the group were ready for refreshments and enjoyed tea and cake in the café. Betty and her friends spent the rest of their afternoon reminiscing about boating trips and reliving their adventures on the water. The day was clearly special for Betty and it’s one she will remember forever. On the return trip to their care home, the group stopped by Betty’s old house where she was met by her neighbour and loved having a special chat and catch up.

‘I just want to thank the management of Link House for all their hard work made in making yesterday so special. They really gave to give Betty a special the treat of her life. The home went beyond expectations. Some of Betty's friends joined her and together the skipper of the sailing club all helped in ensuring that the trip ticked all the essential boxes plus more. What an honour yesterday was. Not forgetting the taxi driver too for his patience. Thank you all so much.’
