Residents at The Grove Care Home near Grimsby were treated to a magical afternoon thanks to a visit from Rainbow Dreaming CIC Therapy Ponies and Unicorns, based around the Skegness area, who brought two of their much-loved ponies into the home.
“When we first mentioned the possibility of ponies visiting the care home, many of our residents could hardly believe it. But when Bubbles and Jo arrived, their faces lit up with amazement,” said Ros Wells, Customer Relations Manager.
‘Bubbles and Jo were gentle, curious, and calm as they made their way around the home. Residents enjoyed stroking them, giving gentle pats, and even gave them a few treats. On the day we discovered one small boundary…they refused to go in the lift, which caused laughter among our residents and staff.’ Commented Wellbeing Lead Donna Burk.
For some residents, the visit brought back fond memories from their childhood of caring for ponies. For others, it was a completely new experience that they hadn’t expected to have at this stage in their life.
Families also joined on the day and were equally moved, describing the visit as “amazing” and “so special.” One resident’s daughter shared, “My dad was feeling low, and it uplifted his whole demeanour.”
