Selwood House Care Home in Charlton Down held its first Woof Fest dog show, welcoming members of the local community along with their dogs to take part in a series of light-hearted competitions. The event supported Ferne Animal Sanctuary, with funds raised through category entries.
Ferne Animal Sanctuary is a long-established animal rescue charity based in Somerset, providing care and shelter for animals who are unwanted, neglected or in need of a new home. The charity supports a wide range of species and focuses on rescue, rehabilitation and responsible rehoming. Ferne also works with the community to promote animal welfare through education, outreach and fundraising initiatives.
The show featured seven classes: Golden Oldie, Cutest Pup, Best Rescue, Best Young Handler, Waggiest Tail, Best Trick Dog and Residents’ Favourite. Visitors entered their dogs for £1 per category, stalls and refreshments were available throughout the afternoon.
Residents enjoyed meeting the dogs and took part in judging the Residents’ Favourite category. The event created an opportunity for connection between residents and the local community.
Keiley Godfrey, Customer Relations Manager at Selwood House, said:
