Selwood House Care Home in Charlton Down has been shortlisted for Care Home of the Year at the South West Care Awards. The awards celebrate the very best in social care across the region and recognise homes that go the extra mile for the people they support.
Selwood House provides both residential and dementia care in the heart of Charlton Down. The home has been designed to be welcoming and comfortable, with bright communal lounges, a landscaped garden, and plenty of activities to help residents stay active and engaged. The care team focus on getting to know each individual, making sure residents feel part of the Selwood House community and that their families feel supported too.
The nomination came after families spoke about the difference Selwood House has made to their lives. One relative, whose husband now lives at the home, shared her experience:
“From my very first visit, I was impressed by the warm welcome, the friendly care staff, and the clean, airy building. My husband even thought it was a hotel. The care and compassion shown by every member of staff, to both my husband and myself, has been wonderful. After forty-nine years of marriage, placing my husband into a care home has been the saddest thing I have ever done. But thanks to the wonderful team at Selwood House, I now feel reassured and grateful, knowing that he is happy, safe, and settled.”

The winners will be announced later this year at the South West Care Awards ceremony.
