The Laurels Care Home in Draycott recently held its annual Summer Fair, welcoming a fantastic turnout from families and members of the local community.
The event, held in the home’s grounds, hosted a wide range of stalls, activities, and entertainment enjoyed by all ages.
‘Stalls on the day included a plant stall, sweet treats, handmade crafts, slime-making, 3D printing displays, resin art, children’s clothing from Lullaby and Loom, and several classic games such as Hook-a-Duck, Guess the Name of the Doll, and How Many Sweets in a Jar.’ Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Katie Salway.
‘Children were especially drawn to the bouncy castle, face painting, and a popular ‘Labubu’ game stall. Mr Whippy ice cream and slush puppies from the visiting ice cream van were also a firm favourite throughout the day.’ Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Katie Salway.
The Laurels staff team ran the BBQ, serving over 100 burgers and hot dogs, alongside soft drinks and a cake stand generously stocked with donations from staff and their families. A pop-up bar offered complimentary Pimm’s and bottles of Thatcher’s Gold — kindly donated by Thatchers.
Visitors shared positive feedback throughout the day:
“We’re extremely grateful for the effort that goes into creating these events. It’s clear how much thought and care is involved,” said one resident’s family member.
Another added, “It’s been lovely to spend time here with family, enjoy some food, and see everyone in good spirits.”
One community member commented:
“We brought our two children along and had a great afternoon. It’s clear how committed The Laurels team is to their residents and local families.”
A resident summed up the mood with a smile:
“Look at all the children on the bouncy castle. I might go and have a bounce too!”
‘Our residents enjoyed lunch outside, spent time with their families, and took part in the day’s activities. The team at The Laurels would like to thank everyone who came, volunteered, donated, and supported the event; it was simply amazing.’ Commented Home Manager Melissa McConville.
‘In total, the event raised £595, which will directly fund a special Christmas Day Event for our residents and their families this December. Held at our local village hall, the day will feature a full three-course meal, gift exchanges, live music, and table entertainers including a balloon artist and caricaturist. The aim is to give residents a shared Christmas celebration with their families, especially for those who are unable to do so on Christmas Day itself.’ Commented Home Manager Melissa McConville.
