Resident Victor, aged 83, recently had his wish fulfilled to spend a day surrounded by sports cars with a thrilling visit to Haynes Motor Museum.
The Wellbeing Team at The Laurels Care & Nursing Home in Draycott organised the wish through their ‘Make a Wish’ initiative, supporting their residents to enjoy memorable outings and activities.
“Haynes Motor Museum is the UK’s largest collection of cars and motorcycles, with over 300 vehicles to explore. Perfect for family days out, the Museum offers engaging trails and hands-on activities alongside its 15 incredible exhibitions. As a charity, every visit helps preserve and share the history of motoring for future generations.” – (Haynes Motor Museum)
Katie Salway, Wellbeing Coordinator commented
“During our visit, Victor had the chance to sit behind the wheel of two iconic sports cars, a Honda Civic Type R and a 2005 Ford Mustang GT. Victor had a wonderful time and particularly liked the Mustang commenting, “What a beauty! As he settled into the driver’s seat, he grinned and called out, “Make it go vroom!”
It was such a joyful experience, and he was genuinely thankful. A perfect Make a Wish moment that brought back memories and made new ones too,”
This initiative is a key part of The Laurels’ person-centred care approach, where staff actively listen to and learn about residents' unique hobbies and pastimes, tailoring activities to individual preferences.
“It was a pleasure to see him so happy,” shared Melissa McConville, Home Manager. “These kinds of moments help residents feel truly seen and valued.”
