Shenstone Court Care Home recently made a dream come true for football fan Gary as part of the home’s Make a Wish initiative. Gary Foster has been a lifelong fan of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and a season ticket holder for many years. Gary recently moved to Shenstone Court but still goes to the games with his family, he had always wanted to have a behind-the-scenes look of Molineux football ground so the staff at Shenstone Court arrange for his wish to come true.
“Gary was looking forward to his trip to the Wolves, and he instantly knew where we were when we got out of the taxi,” commented Wellbeing Coordinator Taylor Asquith. “The team at Molineaux were fantastic. Jeanette Walker from Wolverhampton Wishes very kindly arranged the day for us. They specialise in making special days happen for lifelong fans, and we are very grateful that we could have this day for Gary, who had a fantastic day.”
Gary was delighted to meet his hero Steve Bull, historically the top scorer for Wolves, and a legend at the club. Gary proudly posed for photos with Steve, who signed his scarf. Gary also met John Richards, the second top goal scorer in Wolves history, who again had his picture taken and signed his scarf. Gary said his day out was “Superb”!
“During the visit Gary toured the Wolves Museum, looking at memorabilia from the club’s history, including the FA cup trophy won in 1960. The players came and met the residents and chatted over lunch too. The club were very kind and gifted merchandise, including hats, scarfs, mugs and pens. To end the day, we got invited to go to the pitch, where we had photos and got to see the players dug out.” Said Taylor.
The Make a Wish initiative at Shenstone Court Care Home, part of the Country Court group, is dedicated to creating memorable experiences for residents. From boat trips and book launches to off-road driving and family tea parties, this program is a vital aspect of the Shenstone Court person-centred care approach. Staff take the time to understand each resident's unique hobbies and interests, tailoring activities to match their individual preferences.
