Walberton Place Care Home resident Trish visited Boxgrove Priory church in West Sussex. The visit was arranged for her as part of the care home’s Make a Wish initiative after the staff team learned about her connection to the Priory.
“Trish was looking forward to her visit to Boxgrove Priory and we were lucky to go on a beautiful sunny day,” commented Home Manager Edmalyn Consigna. “She had previously been a regular member of the congregation and sung in the choir. Our Wellbeing team learned all about Trisha’s childhood and how important her faith is to her, we knew how significant it was to her to retain her connection with her local church.”
During her visit, Trish toured the now-ruined Priory Guest House, spoke to the friars and admired the beautiful stained-glass windows and stone carvings. Boxgrove Priory dates from the early 12th century and is dedicated to St Mary and St Blaise, it features beautiful Renaissance carvings reflecting the French influence in their designs.
Trish has been an active lady, enjoying playing tennis and squash as well as swimming and dancing. She also enjoyed charity work with NSPCC and The Friends of Chichester. A keen seamstress, she made and designed wedding dresses and accessories. Trish was born in September 1940, a wartime baby, adopted at just 6 months old. Trish grew up in Leeds, with what she describes as very strict parents. She later moved to Scarborough, a town Trish loved. On leaving school she attended secretarial college in Leeds then worked at the Dental hospital for the head professor and worked in London for several years before moving to Hampshire, then Boxgrove in 1996.
