A Special Wish for Margaret at The Grove Care Home

The Grove Care Home near Grimsby recently granted a special wish for resident Margaret. She wished to visit Louth Museum to see the exhibition ‘Growing Up in Louth: 1939–1989’—a period she remembers fondly, having spent her own childhood in the town during that time.

The Grove Care Home near Grimsby recently granted a special wish for resident Margaret. She wished to visit Louth Museum to see the exhibition ‘Growing Up in Louth: 1939–1989’—a period she remembers fondly, having spent her own childhood in the town during that time.

The Country Court Make a Wish initiative gives residents the opportunity to enjoy meaningful experiences tailored to their interests – from boat trips and book launches to off-road driving and afternoon teas. It forms an important part of the Care Home group’s person-centred approach to care, with staff taking the time to get to know each resident’s life story and passions.

‘Margaret played a key role in the exhibition itself, having been invited by museum curator Julie Gough to contribute. She shared personal photographs, written memories, and took part in interviews to help bring the history of Louth to life.’ Commented Customer Relations Manager Ros Wells.

During her visit, Margaret listened to podcast recordings created by her friends and spent time reminiscing about their shared experiences. A particularly memorable moment came when she spoke with a young girl and her family visiting the museum. Margaret showed them photographs and shared her story — a powerful reminder of the value of lived history and personal connection.

Following her time at the museum, Margaret enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea at the Brackenborough Hotel, complete with a selection of delicious treats and a few to take home for later.

‘Margaret is also the writer and editor of The Grove Gazette, our home’s monthly newsletter, with the latest edition out now. To mark this special day, we presented Margaret a beautiful leather-bound journal — a fitting gift to continue her creative writing.’ Commented Home Manager Kelly Lofts.
