Beech Lodge team shortlisted for prestigious Caring UK award

Country Court Care is delighted to announce that the care team at Beech Lodge Nursing Home in Holbeach St John’s has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award. The Caring UK Awards are now in their third year and the home has beaten off competition from hundreds of others across the UK to be shortlisted in the Dementia Team of the year category.

The nursing team at Beech Lodge have been nominated for their remarkable patience and understanding when caring for residents living with dementia. They also found that some families have limited understanding of dementia, making it a difficult and confusing time for relatives when their loved one comes to live in a care home, so they go out of their way to educate families about living with the condition. As part of this, they take a person-centred approach, as each person with dementia has different symptoms and experiences, so they take time to get to know them and their family individually.

The nursing team consistently receive excellent feedback from staff and relatives. The daughter of a resident with complex health issues recently commented;

“The nursing team at Beech Lodge are absolutely fabulous, our family can’t speak highly enough of them. You can tell straight away that they really do care about people. They are obviously a well-managed team as staff turnover is low, this means that Dad knows his carers well, they respect him which inspires his confidence. It was such a relief to find Beech Lodge, when we realised that Dad would need to go into residential care we were worried because you hear so many horror stories, but we couldn’t have been more wrong. We can’t fault the team here and are more than happy to tell people about the fantastic care Dad has received.”

The Caring UK Awards are an annual event recognising excellence and achievement in care homes throughout the country with shortlisted facilities being as far north as Ballachulish in northern Scotland and as far south as Devon.

The awards are organised by Script Events in conjunction with leading care industry magazine Caring UK, with support from headline sponsor Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank, and in each category up to seven finalists have been selected. They will now go through to the next stage of the judging process where they will be out to impress by showcasing first hand the great work going on in their homes.

This stage involves a visit to each finalist by a member of the awards team who will take a look around the facilities and chat to residents and staff before compiling a comprehensive report, which will then be passed on to an expert judging panel to decide the worthy winners.

Winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony on Friday November 15 at The Athena in Leicester.
