Camberwell Lodge Care Home supports local community with a charitable donation

PINDERS DESIGN AWARDS

Camberwell Lodge Care Home has been busy building relationships with the local community of Southwark. Since opening in 2022, the relationships built through this work have enabled residents to continue being active in their local community.

Recently Camberwell Lodge was nominated as a finalist in the prestigious PINDERS design award in the category of Best Exterior Spaces. As part of this award, on behalf of Camberwell Lodge, Home Manager Beata Gozdur chose to generously donate money to the Southwark Pensioners, a local charity supporting older people aged 50+ to enjoy healthier, independent, and more active lives, in touch with each other and their communities.

Beata Gozdur, Home Manager, commented.

"It was fantastic to give back to our local community, especially to a charity whose goals aligned so similarly with ours. We look forward to working closer with the charity by offering our beautiful communal spaces for the charity to use to continue their fantastic work in Southwark.”

KEEPING ACTIVE WITH FLO YOGA

Camberwell Lodge has also been working with the local community to keep active through regular yoga sessions hosted by local yogi Florence from Flo Yoga. The session takes place every Tuesday and encourages residents to improve their mobility and range of movement. Florence commented on how the sessions have been going so far.

"I hold sessions on the top floor of Camberwell Lodge. The area is flooded with plenty of natural light and offers beautiful views of London.

Because most residents have reduced mobility, my sessions are seated. You might wonder what happens during those 45 minutes. The answer might surprise you: A LOT!

We practice breathing exercises and find versatile ways to mobilise the joints, focussing on the upper body, neck, hands and wrists, shoulder, and spine). We fire muscle groups through resistance work and stimulate our brain with neuroscience-based exercises, coordination exercises, and visual drills (basically eye gymnastics!).

Occasions for giggles and laughter are numerous. I have seen the residents getting more engaged over the weeks, which has been a joy. There is a trust and understanding that what we do during the sessions counts towards improving the quality of their lives, even if it is just a little, which matters."
