Castor Lodge Care Home residents take a dip at Tallington Lakes

Castor Lodge Care Home residents Sylvia and Ingrid recently took a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool at Tallington Lakes. The outing was arranged as part of Country Court’s Make a Wish initiative. Residents are given the opportunity to tell staff about somewhere they have always wanted to go or a special activity they always wanted to do. Sylvia spoke to the staff team about her love of swimming and how she would love to get back in a pool.

The team at Castor Lodge went above and beyond to make the swimming trip happen, and once the other residents heard about the plans, they were keen to join in. The Home’s Manager Natalie White led the way to the pool and the ladies were soon splashing around and making the most of being back in the water.

“Swimming is a fantastic exercise for older people, it’s gentle on the joints and improves muscle strength and tone.” Explained Home Manager Natalie White. “When we heard about Sylvia’s wish we thought ‘why not?’. The resident’s families were delighted and sent swimming costumes for their loved ones to wear as soon as they heard about it. The team at Tallington Lakes were very helpful and made us so welcome. The smiles on everyone’s faces made the whole trip so worthwhile”.

Residents Eric and Ron also enjoyed a ‘Make a wish’ day trip whilst the ladies took a swim. The two gentlemen experienced a day of fishing at nearby Lovell’s Lake. Accompanied by Castor Lodge’s maintenance man Andrew Gennery, also a keen fisherman, the pair had a relaxing day at the lakeside. They were delighted with their catch and loved the opportunity to engage with a pastime they love.

Following their morning activities, all the residents met up at the Lakeside café for lunch and a refreshing drink in the sunshine. The ‘Make a wish’ initiative has seen residents from across the Country Court group enjoy special outings and activities. From scoring goals at Sheffield United Football Club to off-road driving and many special day trips and outings.
