Celebrations in Southwark as Camberwell Lodge Care & Nursing Home is declared officially open

Camberwell Lodge Care and Nursing Home was declared open on Friday 13th May 2022 by Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing at Southwark Council, Councillor Evelyn Akoto. The first visitors to the state-of-the-art care and nursing home were welcomed through the doors with a glass of champagne, and given a tour and refreshments. Camberwell Lodge provides an affordable luxury care offering in Southwark, whilst retaining a sense of community.

Councillor Evelyn Akoto commented: “It was amazing to be part of the ribbon cutting event for our top-quality new nursing home in the heart of the borough. I was blown away to see for myself all that Camberwell Lodge has to offer. It is such a welcoming environment with first-class facilities that I hope will help the new residents settle in and feel at home quickly.”

“We are proud to be working with Country Court to ensure that people with care needs are able to stay close to their family and friends where they can also expect high-quality care. Camberwell Lodge has been designed around our residents’ needs, including those living with dementia. We look forward to them being supported to live healthy, active lives in such a modern new home.”

Co-CEO of Country Court, Alykhan Kachra commented “We are delighted to open our flagship home in London. Camberwell Lodge has brought hundreds of jobs to Southwark and addressed the high demand for nursing care in the borough. As a family-run company, Country Court aspires to provide the kind of care every one of us would wish our loved ones to receive.”

On the open day, visitors took a tour of the care and nursing home which boasts a cricket-themed pub, wellness suite and hair salon, library, reminiscing room and activity area. The facilities will make life comfortable and enjoyable, allowing people to live safely and as they choose. The ninety-eight bedrooms have been designed to be relaxing, spacious and comfortable; all bedrooms feature en-suite walk-in shower rooms. Each floor has its own lounge and dining areas, residents will be able to enjoy afternoon tea with their guests and visitors or relax and socialise with friends. The top floor of the home features the hospitality suite with a private dining room, Vista bistro café and spectacular roof terrace garden all featuring stunning views of the London skyline.

The ground-breaking project has been developed in partnership with WGP Architects and Horizon Building Contractors and features bold contemporary design and a focus on creating a sense of community for residents. In line with council requirements, Camberwell Lodge’s building is rated as BREEAM excellent. This means it is considered best in practice for sustainable building design, helping the council tackle its emissions and become carbon neutral by 2030.

Green measures are central to the building’s design. Its energy strategy will help lower water and energy use, cut carbon emissions which contribute to the greenhouse effect and keep running costs down compared to a standard design. Where energy and heat are needed, the building will use low carbon technologies like solar panels, a combined heat and power boiler, and an air source heat pump. These will keep residents warm and safe, while also saving carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere and reducing reliance on gas.

Camberwell Lodge will be managed by Beata Gozdur.  She brings many years of experience in the care sector both as a Home Manager and Regional Manager with various leading healthcare groups. Beata is very excited to be commissioning our brand-new care & nursing home in Southwark and is looking forward to meeting the residents and their families.

Beata will be leading a team of over 100 staff, of whom around 80% will be from Southwark. They will all be paid at least the London Living Wage, in accordance with the council’s Residential Care Charter and Country Court’s commitment to the London Living Wage. Southwark’s Residential Care Charter lays out the council’s expectations regarding safe and high-quality care. Southwark Council aim to set the standard for working terms and conditions for all residential care providers in the borough.

Camberwell Lodge Care & Nursing Home is part of the Country Court Group, a family-owned and run business founded in 1983, with the company philosophy “Our family caring for yours”.
