Champagne flows at The Laurels Care Home

Residents at The Laurels Care Home in the village of Draycott near Cheddar have been treated to a Champagne afternoon tea party. As part of the Country Court Care ‘Make a Wish’ initiative residents were given the opportunity to tell staff about somewhere they’d always wanted to go or a special activity they’d always wanted to do. Following much discussion, some of the residents at the Laurels care home explained that they’d never tasted Champagne.

The team at The Laurels decided that this should be put right and staff at the care home pulled out all the stops to put on a fabulous afternoon tea with complete with Champagne. Residents enjoyed their treat on the roof terrace on a beautiful sunny summer afternoon. Chef Manager Katie prepared homemade scones with jam and cream, a selection of cakes and sandwiches, all beautifully presented for residents to enjoy.

Later in the afternoon, everyone went inside to listen to entertainment from local singer Will Rawlings who performed a tribute to Dean Martin ‘King of Cool’. Will got everyone up and dancing along to classic hits from the era.

We had a lovely afternoon,” said Home Manager Becky Green “It was great to be able to give our wonderful residents a well-deserved treat, it was lovely to see smiling faces all round”

The ‘Make a wish’ initiative has seen residents from across the Country Court Care group enjoy special outings and activities; from scoring goals at Sheffield United Football Club, to off-road driving and having family tea parties.
