Daphne’s wish for a new cardigan comes true

Recently at Rose Lodge Care Home, resident Daphne wished to receive a new cardigan through Country Court Care’s Make a wish initiative. The ‘Make a wish’ initiative has seen residents from Rose Lodge and across the Country Court group enjoy special outings and activities; from boat trips and book launches to off-road driving and lots of family tea parties.

When another resident at our Lyncroft Care Home in Wisbech, Doreen, heard about this make a wish she wanted to act straight away as she is an avid knitter and has been for many years. So, Doreen and Lyncroft wellbeing coordinator Sarah set out to find out what type of cardigan resident Daphne had envisioned for herself. Daphne’s dream cardigan was ‘no pockets, medium in size, normal in length and a lovely blue’. With all these important elements in mind to make the perfect cardigan, Doreen went to her local wool shop where she is a regular. Doreen humorously commented on the trip saying ‘it was a wonderful outing but I had too many shades of blue to choose from!’

Staff at our Rose Lodge and Lyncroft Care Home arranged for the surprise visit to take place at Rose Lodge Care home for Doreen to present her finished cardigan to Daphne by using the Country Court mini bus. Home manager Nogi commented ‘it has been so lovely to connect our residents and grant Daphne’s wish in such a wonderful way’. Not only was Daphne surprised with her newly knitted cardigan but Doreen was too. The team at Rose Lodge presented Doreen with a beautiful bouquet of colourful Roses as a thank you on behalf of the whole team for her kind gesture.

‘Doreen has knitted all her life and has made things from baby blankets to clothing for all ages. Doing this make a wish for Daphne has been really enjoyable for Doreen to have as a project’ commented Lyncroft Wellbeing coordinator Sarah. Well-being coordinator Tatjana at Rose Lodge also commented ‘Daphne is over the moon with her new cardigan and still can’t believe that Doreen knitted it just for her’.
