Eccleshare Court Care and Nursing Home residents enjoyed a fantastic day out to the seaside this month. Following two years of restrictions for care home residents, people have been delighted to get out and about on a variety of day trips. Residents have enjoying going to local garden centres, having pub lunches and visiting a local horse sanctuary.
“We always ask our residents where they’d like to go on their next day trip and the seaside is always a firm favourite”, explained Sharon Kinsella-Pullen, Well-being Coordinator. “Cleethorpes is one of our favourite destinations and we love reminiscing about family and childhood holidays when we visit. We always treat ourselves to a traditional fish and chips lunch in the pub, visit the shops and spend a few pennies in the arcades”.
The team at Eccleshare Court organise several day trips to the seaside throughout the summer months to offer as many people as possible the opportunity to go. The care team liaise with the wellbeing to ensure people are well enough to manage the trip and all the necessary medication, risk assessments and equipment are available for the day. Following the trip, the Wellbeing team share photos with residents’ families so they can see what their loved one has enjoyed during their day out.
“Our day trips to the seaside are a wonderful talking point for residents and their families”. Said Home Manager Lisa Dent. “People will be talking about the day trip for several weeks afterwards. We do all the traditional seaside activities, from walks on the beach to see the donkeys to having an ice cream on the seafront. It’s heart-warming to see the wonderful smiles on people’s faces as they get to experience the sea, sand and sun.”
