Lockdown has not stopped wishes coming true for Lostock Lodge Care Home residents

The dedicated staff at Lostock Lodge Care Home in Lostock Gralam near Northwich have helped not just one but two residents achieve their dreams this week. As part of the care homes ‘Make a Wish’ initiative, residents were given the opportunity to tell staff about somewhere they’d always wanted to go or a special activity they’d always wanted to do. Resident Joan Keyes was very clear what her wish was.

Joan is completely obsessed with George Clooney” explained Customer Relations Manager Nina Rogers “She talks about him all the time, when she initially said her wish was to meet him, we wondered how on earth we could do this. With a bit of creativity, we were able to make it happen for her!

The team at the care home arranged a surprise tea party for Joan and her friends complete with cut out George Clooney and the paparazzi. The ladies enjoyed a champagne afternoon tea served by a very smart waiter and the private dining room was decorated as a special VIP area for the day. Joan was over the moon, grinning from ear to ear and said, “This was the best day ever thank you so so much, but can I keep him?”

Joan had a wonderful tea party and even had a waltz around the room with her very dashing waiter. On seeing the photos on Facebook her granddaughter Sarah commented, “Amazing, thank you so much for making by Grandma so happy!”

The Lostock Gralam care home also made resident Mark Graham’s 60th Birthday extra special by presenting him with a signed book from his sporting hero, Manchester United legend, Sammy McIlroy. Mark is a huge lifelong fan of the club and has his bedroom decked out with all the memorabilia he can find. Mark received a signed card and notebook from Manchester United for his special birthday and was over the moon with his gifts. Mark’s family commented,

“[The] wonderful Lostock Lodge staff Nina and Stefan made Mark’s special (lockdown) birthday really memorable! Thanks to the Chef who made a gorgeous cake too! Can’t thank everyone enough”.

The ‘Make a wish’ initiative has seen residents from Lostock Lodge and across the Country Court group enjoy special outings and activities; from scoring goals at Sheffield United Football Club, to off-road driving and lots of family tea parties.
