Lostock Lodge Make Residents wishes come true

As part of a ‘Make a Wish’ initiative, care homes across the Country Court Care group have been asking residents what their wish would be and endeavouring to grant as many as possible. Lostock Lodge Care Home in Lostock Gralam granted Sheila’s wish to go swimming this week.

Together with her husband Brian, Shelia Yale has been a resident at Lostock Lodge since July following a spell in hospital after a stroke in 2016 and is now a wheelchair user. Staff discussed the ‘make a wish’ project with her and asked what she would wish for. Sheila has always enjoyed swimming and keeping fit so said she’d love to swim again. The last time she went swimming was on holiday in Australia on the Great Barrier Reef.

Staff at the Care Home spoke with the team at Northwich Pool and arranged for Activity Coordinator Sarah Holt and Home Manager Lianne Webb to accompany her to the pool.

Sheila’s face lit up when she was in the water, she loved her swim and enjoyed it so much we are going to try to make it a weekly visit. We’d like to thank Northwich Memorial Court for making this happen” Said Lostock Lodge Home Manager Lianne Webb. “The ‘Make a wish’ initiative has been great for our residents we’ve loved hearing about their wishes and doing our best to make them happen

The ‘Make a Wish’ initiative is running in all Country Court Care Home, residents wishes are written on tags and tied to the home’s ‘wishing tree’. Each care home will be working with resident’s families and together with the care team, will be coming up with creative ways to make wishes come true.
