Residents at Rose Lodge Care Home host Oomph-lympics!

Residents and staff at Rose Lodge Care Home in Market Deeping have been enjoying the Country Court Oomph-lympics with a range of Olympics and sport-themed activities. Residents have been trying their hand at Boccia, bop-fit, artistic swimming and other events.

Rose Lodge hosted an Opening Ceremony with afternoon tea, the ribbon was cut to declare the Oomph-lympics open and their wonderful torchbearer carried the torch made by the residents. The closing ceremony saw medals awarded to residents for all the different activities and Elizabeth, Richard and Elizabeth received gold medals and certificates for their outstanding contribution to the event.

Many of our residents were keen to take part in our Oomph-lympics” said Wellbeing and Activity Coordinator Kerry Pepper. “They thoroughly enjoyed it, the ‘artistic swimming’ which consisted of chair-based exercises led by our Activity Coordinator Claire, was great fun and produced a lot of laughs”.

Residents at Rose Lodge Care Home chose a dragon as their mascot keeping the link with the Olympic Games that were due to be held in Japan this year. Residents spent the week before creating a dragon collage during their arts and craft activities with contributions from everyone involved.

Activity Coordinators received training from Country Court’s partner activity provider, Oomph Wellness, and led residents in Boccia, bop-fit, artistic swimming and an open event of their choice. Rose Lodge got their games underway with an afternoon of beanbag bocca and table tennis to get everyone feeling motivated. Residents also enjoyed tin-pin bowling and volleyball.

The Oomph-lympics are just one of the many activity initiatives that Country Court provide for residents. Providing stimulating activities in care homes is one of the most crucial elements of maintaining health, happy residents. By enabling residents to participate in meaningful opportunities, their physical, emotional, social, cognitive and sensory skills are strengthened. These five skills complete the wellbeing of a person and help maintain good physical and mental health.
