Smiles all round as pony wish comes true for Barbara

Residents from Lostock Lodge Care Home have been treated to a Pony Party at their home in Lostock Gralam. As part of the Country Court Care ‘Make a Wish’ initiative residents were given the opportunity to tell staff about somewhere they’d always wanted to go or a special activity they’d always wanted to do. Lostock Lodge Care Home resident Barbara was a keen horse rider in her youth and told staff she would love to spend some time with horses again.

The team at Lostock Lodge arranged for Helen Brookes and daughters Jenna and Erin, from the East Cheshire Branch of The Pony Club, to bring two of their gorgeous ponies for Barbara to see at the care home. Everyone joined in and had a lovely evening petting and grooming the ponies who behaved themselves beautifully.

“It was lovely, and the girls really enjoyed it! A testament to the lovely nature of these two ponies - Aston felt so comfortable he fancied a roll and Dylan loved being pampered!” commented Helen.

Barbara had a wonderful time,” said Home Manager, Jenny Jobber “the smile on her face said it all as she groomed the ponies. Our ‘Make a Wish’ initiative has been a great success; we’ve learned so much about our resident’s fascinating life stories and to fulfill people’s wishes is rewarding for all involved”.

The ‘Make a wish’ initiative has seen residents from across the Country Court Care group enjoy special outings and activities; from scoring goals at Sheffield United Football Club, to off-road driving and having family tea parties.
