Camberwell Lodge Care & Nursing Home in Southwark has partnered with Blue Elephant Theatre to offer Social Dance workshops for people aged over 60. The workshops will be hosted at Camberwell Lodge Care Home in Picton Street. The workshops are free to attend and will start on Monday 5th September at 11 am and then every Monday at 11 am until the end of September.
“Social Dance is a dance workshop, focusing on mobility and gentle movement, providing gentle physical activity, stimulation and interaction for older people.” Explained Mariana Aristizabal Community & Development Assistant at Blue Elephant Theatre. “These sessions aim at improving participants’ mental and physical well-being; they are relaxed, fun and anyone can join in.”
“We are excited to host Social Dancing at Camberwell Lodge,” said Home Manager Beata Gozdur. “Our residents love music and dancing, and this will be a great chance to socialise and meet new friends. The sessions will be ideal for people who love to dance but perhaps haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy their favourite pastime for a while.”
Blue Elephant theatre is a small theatre and charity, located in Camberwell, offering creative opportunities to those who may not otherwise access them, often using the benefits of engagement in the arts as a tool to support people’s development in other ways. Throughout the year they usually engage 1500 people through different programmes and activities! The workshops will be delivered by Green Candle trained contemporary dancer Kome Ovuworie. Her practice is centred around care and enjoyment.
People living with dementia and carers are welcome to join the sessions, you do not need to be a resident at Camberwell Lodge Care Home to attend but you do need to book in advance.
