Stuarts Sheffield Wednesday Match wish comes true

Belmont House Care & Nursing Home in Sheffield recently granted their resident Stuart Gosling his wish to see Sheffield Wednesday play a match at Hillsborough Stadium. Stuart loved to go to matches when he was younger and was keen to see his favourite team in action again.

The ‘Make a wish’ initiative has seen residents from Belmont House and across the Country Court group enjoy special outings and activities; from boat trips and book launches to off-road driving and lots of family tea parties. Stuart has supported Sheffield Wednesday for over 60 years and travelled all over the country to see them play. Stuart loved the team so much he even travelled all the way to Germany & Luxembourg to watch his beloved team.

On the way to Hillsborough Stadium, he passed the site of Middlewood Hospital where he worked as a psychiatric nurse for over 30 years. He had fond memories of working there.

On the day of the ‘make a wish’ match to see Sheffield Wednesday Stuart was very excited and had a smile on his face from start to finish.  Stuart commented that it was one of the best things anyone had done for him, and he couldn't stop thanking everyone who had made it happen as he hadn't been for over 6 years due to failing health.

Activity coordinator Yvonne Snape commented that “Stuart has not stopped smiling and tells everyone how wonderful his day was. Stuart’s make a wish was a huge success and we aim to grant more of our residents wishes throughout 2023 ”.
