The Lord Mayor of York visits Somerset House

Residents at Somerset House Care & Nursing Home in Wheldrake were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor David Carr BSc FRICS and his wife, the Lady Mayoress, Mrs Lynda Carr for a visit to their home. The Lord Mayor joined residents and staff for an afternoon of live entertainment followed by an afternoon tea prepared by Chef Manager Neil Standish and his staff team.

Everybody enjoyed the singer who performed classics from throughout the years. Residents put forward their favourite artists such as Tom Jones & Elvis Presley who seemed to be very popular. The performer had over 200 plus songs on his playlist which he was ready to select from and wow the residents with many classic songs.

‘Residents loved dancing and tapping their feet in time to the music. They could also remember the majority of words from all the songs and sung along with the performer. Resident Carol particularly loved the song that included her name. Our well-being coordinator Jeannette got all the residents interacting and swaying their arms in time to the music. The afternoon left such a positive atmosphere.’ Commented Home Manager Dipin Peter.

Once the performer had finished the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor David Carr BSc FRICS and the Lady Mayoress, Mrs Lynda Carr spoke with all the residents and their families. ‘They both took the time to speak to each and every person which put a huge smile on all the residents faces. The residents especially were left feeling very special. Some residents also found things in common with the Lord Mayor of York like where they had lived and favourite past hobbies’ commented Well-being Coordinator Jeanette Towsey.

‘The mother of the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor David Carr BSc FRICS lives with us at Somerset House and he is a regular visitor to our home, but it was wonderful for the other residents to enjoy a visit in his official capacity as Lord Mayor. Joyce is very proud of her son and all his achievements.’ Commented Home Manager Dipin Peter.

Towards the end of the visit, the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor David Carr BSc FRICS and the Lady Mayoress, Mrs Lynda Carr thanked Home Manager Dipin and the whole team for taking such great care of his mum and for the wonderful afternoon they had organised at Somerset House.
