Jennifer Littlechild, a resident at Oakview Lodge Care & Nursing Home in Welwyn Garden City, recently celebrated her 80th birthday in style with friends, family, and fellow residents.
The party welcomed a live performer, Frank, who sang ultimate pop hits from the 1930s-1940s. Jennifer’s favourite song was Jambalaya by Hank Williams, which was a huge hit with all Oakview residents. Jennifer was joined by her two daughters, Debbie and Sharon, and she received lots of lovely cards and a delicious chocolate birthday cake for all to enjoy.
'At the party, everyone sang Happy Birthday to Jennifer, and residents such as Edna whistled along to songs, Kathy clapped her hands, and Henry was up and moving in the middle of the lounge taking centre stage. Even our laundry assistant Kim and housekeepers Kimberly & Tina showed off their wonderful dance moves alongside the residents.' Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Rachel Davies.
Jennifer told staff in the home that the secret to turning 80 years old was to 'stay positive and happy.' When also asked what one of her most valuable life skills has been, Jennifer commented, “Keeping my family healthy.”

Jennifer started her working life as a dressmaker for Cresta Silks before finding herself working as a housekeeper in a care home at St. Audreys Nursing Home in Hatfield. Jenny continued to work for several years as a housekeeper and then retired and went on to help in a charity shop as a volunteer to prepare clothes for sale.
Jennifer has 5 children, and they are Ian, David, Debbie, Mark, and Sharon. She loves to spend time with her children, and they regularly visit her here at Oakview Lodge. Jennifer also thoroughly enjoys all music but prefers to listen to Capital Gold and her favourite program to watch on TV is Watch Repairs Shop.' Commented Home Manager Clare Twiss.
