Dementia Café at Ferrars Hall Care Home

The first Dementia Café held at Ferrars Hall Care Home in Huntingdon recently was a great success with attendees enjoying meeting others over a cup of tea and slice of cake. The Dementia Café is for people living with dementia or people caring for a loved one with dementia. Following the success of the first Dementia Café more have been scheduled to take place every last Tuesday of the month and all are welcome to join. The event aims to raise more awareness surrounding dementia and the staff team at Ferrars Hall are there to help signpost people to support services for further help and guidance surrounding dementia.

At the event visitors were offered a safe environment to chat, warm drinks & delicious nibbles. The Dementia Cafés are a great way to support those in need, prevent social isolation, reduce anxiety/ depression & provide an opportunity for people to express their feelings.

Susan Dunnell Home Manager said “The spouses of residents living with dementia were able to share their experiences with people who really understood their situation. People who had previously stayed at Ferrars Hall for respite care also came to see the team. There were also carers who came on their own and some supporting those living with dementia. Everyone who attended felt supported and a sense of relief from others going through the same situation.”

Customer Relations Manager Chloe Kenna commented ‘We had a lovely turn out for our first dementia café, our Chef Manager Billal West made a fantastic cake which was enjoyed by all. Our hope is that this will be the start of a support network for carers supporting their loved ones who are living with dementia.’

The next Dementia Café will be on Tuesday 31st January 2023 at 10:30am. To find out more about life at Ferrars Hall Care Home or to make an appointment to view the home please contact, Customer Relations Manager Chloe Kenna on 07849 830520 or email chloe.kenna@countrycourtcare.com
