Oakview Lodge’s resident Francina reunited with her son, daughter in law and 2 grandchildren.
Oakview Lodge Care & Nursing Home in Welwyn Garden City recently hosted an emotional reunion for their resident Francina Cottrell. Eighty-six-year-old Francina was reunited with her son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren who she hasn’t seen for five years as they live in Australia. Francina told staff how much she wished that she could take her family out for a meal at a restaurant.
Staff at Oakview Lodge Care & Nursing home arranged transport with the home’s minibus driver, Graham, to help make Francina’s wish come true. She was delighted to finally have a wonderful family meal together in person.
“Francina’s son Rob and his family live a long way away in Australia and they planned a visit to Oakview Lodge.” Explained Wellbeing Coordinator Rachel Davies. “This, as you can imagine, was a very expensive trip for the whole family to make, but Rob visits whenever he can to see his mum. The family also video call whenever possible but it’s just not the same as seeing each other face to face.”
Rob and his wife are schoolteachers and have a very hectic life out in Australia with their two children. Francina’s grandchildren are age 11 and 12 and are both flourishing at school. All the family are very talented singers and during their visit held a small concert for all the residents to enjoy.
“Francina was left smiling from ear to ear while watching her family perform.” Said Home Manager Teresa Torres. “Francina has not seen her grandchildren in 5 years so this was a very emotional reunion for her and all the staff at Oakview Lodge Care & Nursing. We hope to grant many more wishes throughout 2023!”
