Neale Court Care Home joins Captain Tom 100 charity challenge

Residents at Neale Court Care Home in North Hykeham have joined the charity challenge issued by the family of Captain Sir Tom Moore. His family asked people to follow in his footsteps and come up with their own challenge based around the number 100 that they can complete over what would have been his 101st birthday weekend.

Care and Nursing Homes across the Country Court group will be participating in the challenge with a host of creative funding raising activities. From planting 100 seeds in their gardens, knitting 100 squares for blankets, to walking 100 laps of the local park, residents and staff are looking forward to their weekend of fundraising. Captain Sir Tom Moore walked 100 laps of his garden and thanks to successfully capturing the hearts of the nation during the first Covid lockdown he raised a staggering £38.9 million. His family hope that people will continue this legacy by continuing to raise money for NHS charities.

Sir Tom is a real inspiration for our residents,” said Home Manager, Becky Exton. “Many of them can relate personally to his message of hope and mantra that ‘Tomorrow will be a good day’. After facing a challenging time during the pandemic, we have a strong feeling of hope and optimism for the future and are looking forward to a great summer for our residents”.

Staff at Neale Court will be clocking up the miles on a static exercise bike to reach their target of 100 miles by Friday 30th April. “We have been having great fun doing our challenge” said Wellbeing Coordinator Becky Bourke. “Our cycling challenge will be great for keeping us fit and active which is very much in the spirt of Captain Tom’s own challenge. We hope lots of people will take the opportunity to donate to this fantastic cause”. In addition to their cycling challenge resident knitters are making a lap blanket of 100 row and 100 stitches enabling as many people as possible to participate in the challenge. Neale Court is asking family and friends to support them by donating to the Captain Tom Foundation: https://captaintom100.justgiving.com/
