Somerset House Celebrate Valentine's Day

Recently at Somerset House Care & Nursing Home near Wheldrake residents enjoyed a Valentine’s Day themed party with cake tasting and live entertainment from two guest singers.

Residents enjoyed an afternoon filled with live music with songs from throughout the years performed as both a duet and solo act. The variety of old classics left one resident in particular, Marie, reminiscing about her younger days saying ‘gosh that took me back a few years…how lovely’. Wellbeing Coordinator Jeanette Towsey also commented on the afternoon saying ‘Not only were the residents transported back through the years by the music but they were able to dance the afternoon away with such enjoyment. Resident John especially loved the music so much he was able to tap his feet in time to the music.’

Home Manager Dipin commented saying ‘It’s so lovely to see the residents involving themselves in the activities as you can see it really puts a smile on their faces. It’s particularly wonderful to see how much our music sessions help residents communicate with others’.

Alongside the entertainment residents took part in the Country Court ‘Baked with Love’ cake-tasting competition. Residents were able to try 3 different cakes and vote for their favourite. The cakes were Lemon Drizzle, Cherry Chocolate Cake & Walnut Cake. All the cakes were homemade by Neil Standish and his wonderful staff team as part of Country Court’s annual competition. Activity coordinator Jeanette mentioned, “The favourite was definitely lemon drizzle cake which went down amazingly with all residents.”
