Tallington Lodge Care Home recognised for creative Olympics themed activities

Tallington Lodge Care Home near Stamford has been recognised for providing residents with creative and inspiring activities this summer. Oomph! Wellness awarded the care home a ‘Community Spirit Award’ as part of an Olympics themed activity programme for residents. The Oomph! Olympics is a special sports-based competition that ran throughout August and encouraged all care homes across the UK to get involved. The event – like the Olympics – included a wide range of sports, with a different theme each week.

Oomph! Judges were blown away by Tallington Lodge Care Home’s entries throughout the competition, and the care home will win a special sports kit as a prize.

We are delighted that our Wellbeing Team has been recognised for their wonderful activities,” said Home Manager, Manju Panankavil. “The team have been very creative over the summer, our residents participated in virtual swimming, playing beach games and even surfing. We had a fantastic Olympics closing ceremony party with medals awarded to the participants, a parade and music. Our residents had so much fun, our home has been full of laughter and smiles over the summer”.

We love to keep our residents smiling and having fun,” said Wellbeing Coordinator Chantal DeVries. “Our Olympics-themed activities were a great way to bring everyone together. We all enjoyed some gentle exercise, we did lots of craft activities to make banners, an Olympic torch and decorations and we spent time reminiscing about sports we’ve tried over the years too. We made sure there was something for everyone to get involved with”.

Activity Coordinators from Country Court, the operator behind Tallington Lodge, have been receiving training from partner activity provider, Oomph Wellness to help run the events. Each home across the country took part in virtual swimming, gymnastics, court games and beach games. They also staged opening and closing ceremonies.

The Oomph! Olympics are just one of the many activity initiatives that Country Court provide for residents. Providing stimulating activities in care homes is one of the most crucial elements of maintaining healthy, happy residents. By enabling residents to participate in meaningful opportunities, their physical, emotional, social, cognitive and sensory skills are strengthened. These five skills complete the wellbeing of a person and help maintain good physical and mental health.

A huge congratulations to Tallington Lodge Care Home,” said Oomph! CEO, Ben Allen, “The home really showed what community spirit is all about! We were absolutely delighted with the entries we received throughout the competition, and were very impressed by all of Country Court Care Homes who have embraced the campaign whole-heartedly to provide fun-filled exercise sessions for residents.”
