The Hermitage Heroes Vs The Ferrars Farriers

Residents at Hermitage House Care Home in Thrapston have joined the Country Court Boccia League. Boccia is a competitive target ball game which can be played in varying group sizes. The game tests both muscle control and precision. From their seat’s residents can throw, kick or use an object to roll the ball onto the playing ground with the aim of getting their side’s ball closest to the white ‘jack’ ball.

Teams from other Country Court Care Homes in the local area have taken a trip in their minibuses to take part in the league. Residents from Rose Lodge Care Home in Market Deeping, Lakeview Lodge in Milton Keynes and Ferrars Hall in Huntingdon have all participated in the league. Everyone has enjoyed the trip out and getting to know residents from other local care homes. Following the Boccia game people enjoyed a private dining experience. Chef Manager Julie Hollingsworth and her wonderful kitchen team created a delicious home cooked meal which everyone enjoyed with a glass of wine.

Resident Jim from Ferrars Hall Care Home got very competitive within the match and kept saying to himself ‘come on Jim’. Jim’s wife Freida who is also a resident at Ferrars Hall commented ‘we’ve loved every minute of being here and meeting new faces.’

‘Our residents Jerry, Alan & Kathleen all had a great steady bowl. Kathleen was our star of the match with her perfect bowling’ Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Trudy Wyatt from Hermitage House.

‘There were wonderful humorous comments passed between residents from both homes. Especially when Freida from Ferrars asked should I go for the white ball and Gerry from Hermitage House replied, yes please and send it towards me’ Commented Home Manager Clare Hedge.

After a wonderful game of boccia the Ferrars Farriers were crowned the winners of the match beating The Hermitage Heroes 3-2. ‘We would love to have a rematch at some point soon as you could see how much the residents thoroughly enjoyed the game. Freida and Betty never stopped smiling’ commented Ferrars Hall Wellbeing Coordinator, Nick Walter.
