Walberton Place Care Home celebrate 1st Birthday in style

Walberton Place Care Home celebrated its’ first birthday this week with a beautiful afternoon tea for the residents created by Chef Sergio Terrasini, featuring mille-feuille and birthday cake. In line with current government guidelines the care home is currently closed to visitors and although residents are missing seeing their family members, staff ensured the birthday was celebrated in style.

We had a great afternoon celebrating our first birthday,” said Avallon McCormack, Home Manager at Walberton Place Care Home “We’ve been coming up with lots of creative ways to keep busy during the lockdown and have been overwhelmed by the support from our local community. Just this week The Hilton Hotel at Avisford Park gave us wine and cleaning products which was so generous. We thank them and everyone for their support

The Walberton Place Facebook page has been a great way to show families what their loved ones have been doing with lots of photos and videos shared each week.

Each Country Court Care Home has also been provided with a tablet and residents have been experiencing video calls with relatives for the first time, as well as receiving numerous daily phone calls, cards and letters, including postcards from children at Walberton and Binsted Primary school. Some residents at Walberton Place have even been enjoying flying a Spitfire via a virtual reality headset.

Residents usually enjoy a wide range of visitors to their homes including musicians and entertainers, so Country Court are running a UK wide campaign to ask people to send in videos of themselves or their children singing or playing musical instruments. The videos will be collated and shared with all their care homes, anyone wishing to participate can send a video via What’s app to 07872 542 369. In the meantime, the care team have stepped in and done impromptu sing-a-longs with residents to keep everyone’s spirits high.

Staff are doing everything they can to make the most out of life in our home and it has reminded us what a great team we have at Walberton Place, who continue to go above and beyond for residents every day.” Commented Avallon.
