Staff at Heartlands Care & Nursing Home in Yardley helped resident Jeanette Rose achieve a life-long wish this week. Jean said that she always wanted to go on a rollercoaster but she had always been too fearful and missed out. Staff at the care home had to get creative to help thrill-seeking Jeanette fulfil her wish.
Working alongside activity provider Oomph-wellness the team found a virtual video of a rollercoaster ride filmed at the iconic theme park Disneyland in Florida. The film featured several different rides with the roller coaster being the firm favourite. Many residents at the home were keen to join in the experience which proved to be very popular with all those who took part.
For added dramatic effect the virtual roller coaster ride was shown on the large size cinema screen at Heartlands Care Home giving everyone the ability to experience the attraction as if they were strapped in themselves. Everyone joined in with plenty of ooh's and aah's as the roller coaster sped along its journey.
Jeanette loved her roller coaster experience "I've never seen anything like it!" she said.
“Our Make a Wish initiative has been a fantastic way for us to learn more about our residents. The stories that come out are fascinating to hear and we wouldn’t have heard about them had it not been for the Make a Wish project” said Customer Relations Manager Stacey Debney “We’ve fulfilled a huge range of wishes from off-road driving experiences to afternoon tea and now a roller coaster ride!”.
