Celebrating Christmas in care homes

Find out how Country Court will be bringing festive cheer to care homes during the Coronavirus pandemic

Christmas in 2020 is going to be very different for all of us, but staff and residents at Country Court Care Homes are taking the opportunity to let the festive season of goodwill prevail. Traditionally Christmas in Country Court Care Homes has been celebrated by welcoming families, the community and friends into our homes, they have been full of singing, laughter and Christmas spirit. This year we won’t be able to have visitors to our homes in the usual way, but we have plenty of creative ideas to ensure Christmas is celebrated and enjoyed by everyone.

1. Getting into the Christmas spirit:

To get everyone in the Christmas spirit we have launched a ‘Deck the halls Creative Christmas Competition’. Week one kicked off with a Christmas card photo competition. Care Homes submitted their best photo that could be used on the front of a Christmas card, from dressing up and taking a group shot to making festive selfie frames it’s sure to bring lots of laughs along the way.

Week two will be a week of festive baking, care home residents, staff and of course, chefs will be sharing photos of their festive bakes on their Facebook pages.

Week three will be Christmas carols week, plenty of enthusiasm will make up for not being perfectly in tune and our staff and residents’ choirs will be sharing their carols on their Facebook pages from 7th – 13th.

The final week of the competition will be Christmas Decorations week, anything goes but we’ll be seeing lots of trees being trimmed, dressing up and Santa’s grottos!

2. Spreading some Christmas cheer:

We may not be able to invite the community into our home but we’re inviting schools, pre-schools and other community groups to send our residents a Christmas message, who will then be looking forward to sending them back. We’ve already received some beautiful cards from schools, pre-schools video messages from youngsters.

If you’d like to take part you can WhatsApp your video message to 07872 542 369 or post your cards to your nearest Country Court Care Home, see list here.

If you have any questions just email marketing@countrycourtcare.com.

3. Family visits:

In line with new government guidelines our new COVID-safe visitors’ areas are being launched. Each of our homes has slightly different arrangements so it’s worth calling to check the details. Visits are currently limited and by appointment only, with specific visiting areas and screens in place to keep everyone safe. Each of our care homes has a thermal imaging machine to measure visitors’ current temperature, visitors must wear PPE and sign a ‘Health Passport’.

Between each visit, the whole area is sanitised and prepared for the next visitor. It’s a new experience for everyone, but our residents are delighted to be able to see their loved ones again. See our Visitor’s Guide here.

4. Recognising our staff teams:

Traditionally Christmas is an opportunity for our Country Court Directors to visit all 33 Country Court care and nursing homes to say ‘thank you’ in person to our staff teams for all their hard work. This year our staff awards will be going ahead virtually, the nominations have been made online and the judges have reviewed the entries before announcing the winners in a series of virtual award ceremonies later in December. This year more than ever our staff family has pulled together, supported each other and of course our residents through what has been the most challenging time. The staff awards are an important time to thank everyone, not just the individual winners on the day and the Country Court Board of Directors will be taking the opportunity to show their appreciation for all their hard work during 2020.
