Country Court in Bloom 2021

At Country Court, Care Home residents are looking forward to a fantastic summer of gardening and outdoor activities.  Some of our residents have been busy making the most of the springtime sunshine, as can be seen on our Care Home's Facebook pages.

For Country Court in Bloom this year, residents and staff will be making a scrapbook of all their activities. This will be used for judging at the end of the competition. The idea is to give the judges a much better idea of the ‘story behind the photo’ and explain more about how our activities have benefited residents.

After the competition, the scrapbooks will be returned to the care homes and used for reminiscing activities with residents and showing families what their loved ones have been enjoying over the summer.

Our categories this year are:

  1. Best flower display: Make your home entrance look welcoming and your outdoor areas vibrant and inviting. Revamp a forgotten corner of the garden, encourage every resident to have a plant in their room or make flower arrangements for dining areas.
  2. Best person-centred outdoor activities. Using your outside spaces; encourage your residents outside with a fun and engaging outdoor activity. In your folder, you can choose to highlight a one-to-one person-centred activity, a group activity or a project that will run throughout the summer.
  3. Best indoor nature activities: This could be table-top gardening sessions, hatching chicks, making bird boxes. Any nature-related activity to provide sensory stimulation, exercise vital muscle groups and prompt reminiscence can be included. You might use new technology such as virtual reality or sounds to experience the great outdoors from the comfort of a chair or bed. Tell us how your activity has benefited your residents.
  4. Best celebration garden party: Celebrate summer with a garden party for your residents. Ideally, we would like families and the local community to be involved too, pending guidance from the Government.

Country Court’s activities and well-being partner Oomph! Wellness has provided support and inspiration for Country Court Wellbeing Teams with a series of workshops. The workshops will provide ideas for nature-related activities that can be enjoyed as a group or individually with residents.
