Maria is our Customer Relations Manager at Lakeview Lodge Care Home in Milton Keynes, she tells us what motivated her to pull on her trainers and join an Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk
I joined Country Court Care in May 2017 as Customer Relations Manager for Lakeview Lodge. I feel blessed to be part of this very special community. My main role is to offer support and advice to families who are considering bringing a loved one into our care and I take great pride in helping prospective residents learn about how we can make a positive change to their quality of life. It is a great joy to see the difference in our residents once they come and join our family here.
Dementia is very close to us here at Lakeview. We see the impact of this devasting condition every day both for our residents and their families, this can sometimes make you feel a little helpless, so I have been keen to find a way to make a difference. I heard about the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walks and together with three of the staff team here at Lakeview Lodge wanted to get involved. This is my first Memory Walk, I’ll be asking friends and colleagues to sponsor me as I join the 5km walk at Willen Lake in Milton Keynes. I am excited and elated to unite together with so many others affected by dementia to raise money to help aid research.
A Memory Walk is a fun day out for family, friends and the community to unite against dementia and raise funds for such an important cause. There are many walks held up and down the country every year, they are of varying length so anyone can take part. All ages are welcome, and most walks are wheelchair and pushchair friendly too.
It’s heartening to know our team will be part of making a real difference by raising money for this very worthwhile cause. I feel very proud to be part of Alzheimer’s Society’s work.
Dementia is now the UK’s biggest killer with someone developing it every three minutes - yet dementia research still trails far behind other health conditions, after decades of underfunding.
I am so glad that hundreds of people from across Milton Keynes, and the surrounding area, are uniting against dementia to improve the lives of people living with the condition.
