Baycroft Flitwick Care Home Hosts Dementia Awareness Coffee Morning

Baycroft Flitwick Care Home near Ampthill recently welcomed relatives, members of the local community, and staff to a Dementia Awareness Coffee Morning, in partnership with A local Alzheimer’s Society Community Officer, aimed at providing greater understanding and support for those affected by dementia.

‘The event highlighted the importance of open conversations, shared learning, and community support when caring for people living with dementia. Baycroft Flitwick Care Home looks forward to hosting similar sessions in the future to continue supporting families.’ Commented Interim Home Manager Holly Wilson.

‘The morning began in our home’s bistro, where guests were welcomed with tea, coffee, and a selection of cakes. A local Alzheimer’s Society Community Officer hosted the morning, spent time speaking with attendees individually, creating a relaxed and supportive atmosphere before a dedicated presentation and talk.’ Commented Business Support Executive Danielle Gladwin.

The morning included an informative presentation along with an interactive activity, where guests were invited to match questions and answers to test and build their knowledge. Attendees were also offered the opportunity to become Dementia Friends, with many choosing to take part and further their commitment to understanding dementia.

Feedback from those who attended was extremely positive, such as:

BHH, Wellbeing Lead, commented, “This was a wonderful talk for residents, families, and the community to come to and helped us get a better understanding of people living with dementia.”

PW, husband of a resident, shared, “Now it all makes sense.”

DG, Business Support Executive, added, “It seemed to be extremely helpful to those family members who attended, and I think it would be beneficial to do another session in the near future.”
