Last month, Ferrars Hall Care Home in Huntingdon attended a Remembrance Day Ceremony to honour the armed forces members who have died in the line of duty. The ceremony was attended by residents, families, and staff who laid wreaths in memory of those who served in the War. The commemoration included a special parade with marches and singing.
Customer Relations Manager Katie Peters commented 'We have residents at Ferrars Hall who have served during the war, such as John Triggs, who was in the Royal Air Force on the Queen’s Flight. He was a Chief Technician who served 22.5 years and was awarded a Royal Victorian Medal for services to the Queen. Another example is resident Ivor Jenner, who served in The British Army as a Company Sergeant Major. Ferrars Hall also has staff members who are veterans, such as Wellbeing Coordinator Denise Elliott, who was in The British Army, and Care Assistant Peter Price, who was in The Royal Air Force.
Home Manager Susan Dunnell commented 'Being a part of the Remembrance Day Ceremony in Huntingdon was special to Ferrars Hall because most of our residents have been affected by World War II and subsequent conflicts, either playing a role in the forces in active service or supporting war efforts as nurses. We also have staff members who are veterans. So being able to lay a wreath as part of the ceremony was extremely meaningful to us all.'
Wellbeing Coordinator Pat Edwards added that the residents who attended the parade and watched the ceremony were extremely proud to play an official part. “It was a lovely day to pay our respects and share our thanks for all those who have contributed to war efforts both past and present. Ivor’s son, daughter, and son-in-law were also able to join him to support his part of the parade as was John Triggs’s son,” she said.
