Festive Fun at Oakview Lodge Care & Nursing Home

Residents, families, and staff at Oakview Lodge Care & Nursing Home in Welwyn Garden City joined forces to decorate their care home in the spirit of Christmas. Staff were keen to get residents and their families together to take part in trimming trees and putting up decorations. Everyone divided their time across each of the 3 floors in the home to transform them into a true winter wonderland for the residents.

Transforming our home into a winter wonderland -

Housekeeper, Sandra, contributed to the afternoon by making table centrepieces. Sandra commented ‘I watched YouTube videos on how to put them all together. Most of the foliage you see was from my garden and the cones I found on the field nearby.’ Sandra assisted residents with making decorations for the home and between them they decided on the best location for each item.

Our residents have thoroughly enjoyed getting our home ready for Christmas. Resident Bill told family member Anna she had done a first-class job and resident Glenice loved watching the trees come together with the different coloured baubles and lights’ Commented Customer Relations Manager Kelly Rowson.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who joined us to make the home ready for Christmas. Without your input, it would’ve been a mammoth job. But I can truly say it has been really touching to see everyone working together and we look forward to doing it again next year.’ Commented Activity Coordinator Rachel Davies.

Resident Dorothy, daughter Chris, and resident Shirley decorated our reception area with a red and gold theme. ‘It was lovely to overhear Chris, Dorothy, and Shirley reminiscing over their Christmas traditions and their favourite decorations.’ Commented Home Administrator Stacie Horn.

Relative Lynn and I got very competitive and between us, we decided to challenge ourselves to make our floor have the best-decorated tree. Overall, every single floor in our home was transformed amazingly. Our residents also got fully involved with Shirley directing loved ones with where to put baubles and loved ones Karen and Hazel assisting residents to handmake decorations’ commented Activity Coordinator Rachel Davies.

Thank you to everyone for their help -

To thank everyone for their hard work and contribution we celebrated in our Hatfield Arms Pub with a nice lunch. It was great to get everyone in one place to show them our appreciation for all their efforts. Today it has proven we are one big family here at Oakview Lodge’ Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Mihaela.
