March round-up from Fairfield Manor Care & Nursing Home

Throughout March Fairfield Manor Care & Nursing Home near Hitchin celebrated International Women’s Day, Mother’s Day, and World Book Day. ‘We always have monthly plans at our care home, and we love being part of each and every event’ Commented Residents at Fairfield Manor.

World Book Day :

To start the month of March residents and staff took part in World Book Day on Thursday 7th of March. This is the annual celebration of authors, illustrators, and books and a great opportunity to share the joy of reading and books. It was a wonderful opportunity for the residents to reminisce about their childhood stories and much-loved book characters.

‘Our world book day theme was decided by residents to be based on childhood books. Residents reminisced as a group; the stories were wonderful and so fascinating to hear. Many residents have similar interests in books and had read books by the same author. From Little Women to the Famous Five, What Katie Did, and Rupert the Bear were amongst the favourites.’ Commented Home Manager Ioana Puscas.

International Women's Day :

We then celebrated international women’s day which was held on Friday 8th of March. ‘International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.’

‘Many of the female residents at Fairfield Manor have lived brilliant and most interesting lives. Some contributed to the NHS and schools around the country. Many were secretaries and even flew planes. Discussions were created by residents about key milestones in their lives from their weddings, births and anniversaries.  From this event we all agreed how outstanding women are around the world.’ Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Nichola Lazenby.

Mothering Sunday :

Then came Mothering Sunday 10th March. Mother’s Day is a celebration for those who have cared and nurtured us throughout our lives.

‘Mothering Sunday has been the most wonderful day here at Fairfield Manor. Residents received gifts of flowers, plants, and chocolates. Some residents also had special visits from their loved ones. The afternoon was spent in our Bistro Cafe with beautifully dressed tables and a special guest singer Zoe who was outstanding.’ Commented Home Administrator Rhonda Gardner

‘Residents sang, danced, and laughed all afternoon. I want to say thank you to our Chef Stephen Hepworth who made some delicious cakes and for preparing the perfect table settings for our event. In the afternoon we took time to remember to all the mothers who are no longer with us, our residents enjoyed their wonderful memories’. Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Nichola Lazenby.
