Heartlands Care & Nursing Home resident Norman, was delighted to go live on air at BHBN Hospital radio this week. Norman joined presenter Sharon Hill for her regular show. Sharon is also a Wellbeing Coordinator at Normans’ care home and knew all about his love of music and was keen to arrange the trip for him.
Sharon Hill commented. “Norman loves music and jumped at the chance when I asked if he would join me in the studios. Norman talked non-stop about his forthcoming trip to residents and was clearly excited at the thought of spinning some discs in a professional environment.
When the day arrived, Norman reminded all his fellow residents where he was going. He was dressed smartly in his best shirt and tie and looking forward to an unforgettable experience. Sharon and Norman headed by taxi to the studios based in the heritage building at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. Norman enjoyed sharing stories about his family and love of music over a coffee before heading to the studio.
On arriving at the studios, Norman was given a warm welcome from a fellow presenter and a guided tour of the two studios, music library and editing suite. He was shown the various awards, trophies and certificates which had been awarded to BHBN Radio. Prior to the start of the two-hour programme, Norman had the opportunity to spin a few discs which he loved.
“Norman loved having a mention on air” explained Sharon. “He requested one of his favourite tracks for his much-loved blind school. He sang along, tapped his feet and danced around in his chair for 2 hours! He is constantly reliving his memorable moments at BHBN by playing a copy of the programme he was presented with as he left the studios.”
