Residents at The Grange Care Home in Saffron Walden recently enjoyed a lively afternoon with a special visit from The Woodwind of Stortford Group. The group played songs from throughout the years on instruments such as the saxophone, clarinet and the flute.
‘The Woodwind of Stortford group not only played classic songs such as ‘Singing in the rain’ and ‘Hit the road jack’ but they shared some of the history behind each instrument and song. We learnt so many interesting facts from them’ commented Wellbeing Coordinator Yvonne Gray.
Hairdresser Tracey joined in the afternoon by dancing with resident Rita who didn’t stop smiling and moving the whole way through. Tracey even got resident June doing the can-can in her wheelchair. ‘June & Rita absolutely loved it’ commented Tracey.
‘Residents reminisced throughout the performance. They were brilliant at remembering songs from their past and even requested their favourite songs like those from Frank Sinatra.’ Commented Wellbeing Coordinator Yvonne Gray.
Towards the end of the performance The Woodwind of Stortford group distributed percussion instruments including maracas and tambourines to everyone so they were able to join in with the music. Resident Rita commented with a humorous laugh ‘You’ve got me going now, you’ll have to try and stop me’ once she was handed her instrument.
‘Overall it was a brilliant afternoon. You could see how much all the residents loved it by the size of their enormous smiles. We will definitely be organising something like this again soon for our residents to enjoy.’ Commented Home Manager Lijo Varghese.
